Units of Measure

Settings → Units of Measure manages the units available for materials, products and orders.

How conversion works

Conversion between units of the same category is derived from each unit's ratio to that category's base unit. Define grams as the base for weight, and a kilogram declaring a ratio of 1000 converts automatically everywhere.

Adding units

• Add Standard Units adds the common set in one action.
• Add Unit creates a single custom unit — name, category and ratio to the base.
• When standard units are missing, the page offers to add the {count} missing units.

Packaging units are different

Packaging units are never converted globally — a roll of filament is 1000 g, a roll of fabric is 50 m. There is no universal meaning of "roll", so its conversion is defined on each material rather than here. That is exactly what the unit-conversion pricing model on a material is for.
