Pricing Model: Unit Conversion

Unit Conversion — convert between units (e.g. kg to grams). Use it when you buy a container and consume a measured amount from it.

When to use it

• A 1 kg spool of filament used by the gram.
• A gallon of wood glue used by the fluid ounce.
• A 500 ml bottle of fragrance oil used by the millilitre.
• A 330 m spool of thread used by the metre.

cost per working unit = price ÷ contents

Example. Titebond III at 21.99 per gallon, with 128 fluid ounces per gallon, costs 0.1718 per fl oz. A product using 3 fl oz is charged 0.52 — not 65.97, which is what you would get by entering the gallon price as a simple per-unit price.

Stock is counted in containers, not working units. If you hold 6 gallons, enter 6. CrafterBy shows the working-unit total alongside it (= 768 fl oz total), and stock value is calculated on the container price.

Using it on a product

On a product you enter the amount in the working unit — 3 fl oz of glue, 185 g of filament — and CrafterBy applies the derived per-working-unit cost. You never convert back to containers.
